Metadata Management Project
Shutterstock is a global stock photography library, hosting over 50 million royalty-free stock photos
With an extraordinary volume of monthly uploads across a variety of languages, Shutterstock had difficulties maintaining the consistency and relevance of their tags and search terms. As a result, relevant content was not surfacing to buyers.
Local editors in the English, Brazilian and German markets applied their extensive market knowledge, reviewing and editing image tags and descriptions, testing their relevance to the search term, identifying errors in tags, and adding detail such as local holidays and celebrations to improve cultural context. Users now experience more relevant search results, leading to greater service usage and retention.
We identified mislabeled images within search terms. We corrected problem images by adding missing keywords.
